7.18pm, Sunday 3rd July, On Queensland rail to Brisbane, Caboolture, Queensland , Australia
Evening folks, and we’ve now got one more week of the Yalumba Rare & Fine wine release roadshow, and that’s us done for the year in the domestic a Australian arena…..plus one add on night in Alice Springs in August. So the week will more or less run like this……Monday & Tuesday in Brisbane city; Wednesday up to the top of The Great Divide to do a dinner with our fortress The Downs Club in Toowoomba – congratulations to the manager Paul Lochel who has made the Australian indoor cricket team and is off to England later this year to compete for the ‘indoor Ashes’; Thursday is up to Noosa Heads ; Friday is the Sunshine Coast with two more Yalumba fortresses Harrys in Buderim & The Yandina Hotel; then Saturday back to Brisbane to finish the whole thing in fine style with our mates at The Kedron Wavall RSL Club.
Then it’s back to the winery for a week before the Rare & Fine Yalumba wine roadshow relocates to Aoteoroa for two excellent touring weeks – from Invercargill and Dunedin in Southland, through to Auckland and Wellington on the North Island.
But first, our Friday & Saturday in Brisvegas. It’s Good Food Month in Brisbane, and our event on Friday night was at our long term home on the Brisbane River – The Story Bridge Hotel – thank you all over again Richard & Jane Deery and Jo Cosgrove. We took the fab episodes of ‘Plonk’ – the doco comedy take off of serious wine TV shows by The Chaser folk – that featured the Barossa……basically us, the Henschkes, the Langmeil boys, Stuey Bourne, Charlie Melton, Maggie Beer, the Barossa Barons…..and we turned it into a film fest feature night including 9 wines and canapes – plus a Q&A session!! Big times at the Story Bridge specially set up for us ‘screening room’.
Thanks to all the folks who came along – seriously good wine, food and have a belly laugh night had by all! Special thanks to the folks who were at the Barossa Barons Vintage Festival induction dinner two years ago, the Southport 8, Gerard the artist plumber, Ricky the muscle, The Cosgroves, The Deerys, and Stevie Q Wine & The Mandate – you all know who you are, and you’re the best!
Plonk was only screened free to air on Channel 9, but you can check it out on 9s streaming channel Stan, or on YouTube, or buy the DVD……or……check it out if you’re flying Qantas, as it’s currently on their in flight entertainment playlist! *****for all our mates in Sydney, we’re coming to town with exactly the same event at the end of October, again for Good Food Month.
Then folks it was Saturday, and my chance to catch up with my mates “Men With Meat” at the Brisbane BBQ Festival. 6000 tickets sold, and a little bit of Americana was smoking away at the Brisbane Showgrounds……….Australian style. There were 40 competition cooking teams, and every style of smoker – from the solid as a bomb shelter Radar Hill big barrel units, to recycled 44 gallon drums or 18 gallon beer kegs. When blokes are barbecuing…….they do get creative!
